We're continuing our review of tasty teas with local brewer Storm Teas Rooibos Indian Chai. Did you know it's decaffeinated and organic too?
We're always on the lookout for unusual tea blends and this one from Storm Tea caught our eye. It's a blend of rooibos (sometimes known as redbush) tea, blended with Indian herbs and spices.
Rooibos comes from South Africa, is naturally caffeine free and has many other fantastic health benefits including being chockful of antioxidants.
Now rooibos normally has a weird nutty taste that I'm not usually a fan of. However, this special brew is blended with Indian chai spices including cinnamon, ginger and cloves which adds a little extra sweetness to it. It might not be to everyone's taste, but I quite liked it.
The tea comes in silky pyramid teabags and the smell of the loose leaf tea is very exotic indeed. The back of the box recommended brewing for 5-7 minutes and then adding a splash of milk, although the tea does taste good without milk too.
This brew is quite nice to have before bedtime, not only because there is no caffeine in it, but the aromatic spices and sweet rich milkiness of the tea will put you in the mood for some serious sleep!
Excuse the chip in the teacup :)
In summary, rooibos may not be to everyone's taste, but even if you're not a fan, the sweet chai spices add an extra dimension to these teabags and definitely are worth giving a try.
